Week 6 – Revival and Awakening

Pastor Dave has asked that this week our prayer initiative center on ‘praying for revival’. I have added ‘praying for an awakening’ as well because although similar, they are different and both are needed in and for such a time as this in America.

In 1859 in the nation of Ireland, The Ulster Awakening occurred. In a book called Ireland’s Lost Heritage, two statements define a revival and an awakening which resonate in me ~

Revival – A visitation of GOD’s SPIRIT on GOD’s people. Revivals alter the lives of individuals.

Awakening – A time of such intense visitation (from GOD) that both Christian and non-Christian communities are affected. Awakenings alter the worldview of a whole people or culture. An awakening affects the whole of society.

A good place to begin (or should I say, return to) is found in this very familiar verse in which GOD has said…

IF my people who are called by My Name will ~

  1. Humble themselves…

Humble yourself in the presence of The LORD and He will lift you up…James 4:10. See also Proverbs 18:12; James 4:6: Proverbs 22:4

  1. Pray…

…The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man/woman makes tremendous power available – dynamic in its working…James 5:16.

See also I Timothy 2:1-6; Ezekiel 22:30; Matthew 5:6

  1. Seek my face…

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you…Matthew 6:33. See also Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10; Psalm 27:4

  1. Turn from their wicked ways…

Righteousness exalts a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people…Proverbs 14:34.

See also Galatians 6:7-8; Romans 6:23; Matthew 7:13-14

Then…I will hear from heaven and I will heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

The Body of CHRIST has four instructions from GOD in order to experience His promise of a healed land…a land healed by and thru an awakening to GOD. America has been brought to unity and healed in four previous awakenings, why not again? It all begins with us, the Body of CHRIST.

All over this nation, there are individuals and prayer groups fervently seeking GOD and crying out for revival and another awakening in America. Let’s join our voices in prayer with them until we see Psalm 64:9 before our very eyes throughout America ~ every family, every church, every segment of society, every town and city, every state from the northern border to the southern border, from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

And all men shall (reverently) fear and be in awe, and will

declare the work of God; for they will wisely consider and

acknowledge that is HIS doing.

All people experiencing the fear of The LORD and declaring the work of GOD throughout our country…All people wisely considering and acknowledging that GOD is real, HE is alive, HE is in our midst, and HE is full of loving kindness and tender mercies on their behalf. Today is the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound for where sin abounds, grace does much more abound.

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…and forever! Hallelujah!

Week 5 – Our God is an Awesome God!

Again, from the book, Moving Mountains, by John Eldredge in the chapter entitled “Who He Is and Who We Are”; John gives some amazing, mind-boggling, jaw-dropping facts re our great and awesome GOD. Buckle your seat belt, here we go ~

“God gave us the sun – this ought to answer any doubts about his power and goodness. All life on this planet derives its life from the sun, that celestial nuclear device with a surface temperature of 5,500 Celsius. … Yet more than a million earths could fit inside the sun. … One solar flare releases more energy than 10 million volcanoes. (This is helping me realize God is powerful enough for whatever need I am praying for.)

“Now get this – there are roughly one hundred billion stars of all sizes in a galaxy, and one hundred billion galaxies in the universe. Which means there are approximately four hundred billion billion suns like ours that God has made. … Meanwhile, God is providing the energy of those suns every moment. J. B. Phillips nailed the predicament of too many Christians: ‘Your God is too small’.” (Page 42)

One sun…one million earths…1 solar flare/10 million volcanoes…one hundred billion stars…

400 billion billion suns! HE is The GOD of four hundred billion billion suns and is upholding all things by the word of HIS power (Hebrews 1:3)…All 400 billion billion suns AND you and me. This literally takes my breath away when I meditate on it. Take a few moments and simply sit and meditate on the above and then ponder that this is our FATHER GOD…great and mighty, powerful beyond all earthly measure, gracious, merciful and full of lovingkindness…and you are HIS daughter…HIS son! He knows each of us intimately! He loves each of us lavishly!

With this in mind, below are prayers of worship and adoration from Revelation 4 and 5 for us to meditate on and give our heart and voice to this week.

Revelation 4:8 (NAS)

“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, who was, and who is, and who is to come.”

Revelation 4:10-11 (NIV)

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Revelation 5:11-12 (NKJ)

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

Revelation 5:13 (NAS)

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, Be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…and forever! Hallelujah!

Week 4 – Love

John said in I John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from GOD; and everyone who loves is born of GOD and knows GOD. The one who does not love does not know GOD, for GOD is love.

Love in both of these verses is agape…the GOD kind of love or divine love. Agape love is both a noun (person, place or thing) and also a verb (action). GOD is love and HE loves.

This GOD who is love lives, through the HOLY SPIRIT, in each one of us who has received JESUS as his/her Savior. So, we could say it this way… LOVE, who is GOD, lives in me.

As a reminder to all of us, below are the attributes of agape love…attributes of our GOD who is LOVE from I Corinthians 13:4-8 in the Amplified Bible. This is the love that is resident in our re-born spirit…how awesome is that!…we can agape because we can do all things through CHRIST Who strengthens us. Amen? Amen!!

Make these attributes a confession; i.e., ‘Because GOD Who is agape love lives in me, I can and will endure long and be patient and kind; I am every ready to believe the best of every person’, etc. ‘Because GOD Who is agape love lives in me, I am not envious; I am not touchy, fretful, and resentful’, etc.

  • Agape endures long and is patient and kind
  • Agape rejoices when right and truth prevail
  • Agape bears up under anything and everything that comes
  • Agape is every ready to believe the best of every person
  • Agape’s hopes are fadeless under all circumstances
  • Agape endures everything (without weakening)

  • Agape is never envious nor boils over with jealousy
  • Agape is not boastful or vainglorious…it does not display itself haughtily
  • Agape is not conceited – arrogant and inflated with pride
  • Agape is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly
  • Agape does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking
  • Agape is not touchy, fretful, or resentful
  • Agape takes no account of the evil done to it – pays no attention to a suffered wrong
  • Agape does not rejoice at injustice or unrighteousness

I am including two sentences from a consecration prayer John Eldredge prays daily and included in his book, Moving Mountains (page 119). These words are very apropos to this week’s prayer initiative ~

“I also bring the full work of JESUS CHRIST between me and every person and I allow only the love of GOD and only the SPIRIT of GOD between us.” (Bold mine)

This prayer is often part of the daily prayer coverage I give myself so I’m covered whether I’m with believers or gentiles. When I’m with members of the BODY of CHRIST, it reminds me that the same HOLY SPIRIT that lives in me also lives in my brother or sister in The LORD. And, the HOLY SPIRIT will absolutely not be in contention with HIMSELF.

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…and forever! Hallelujah!

Week 3 – There’s Work to Be Done!

I heard a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. In the end, Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

New Hope is a blessed church…why? Because not one of these people attend this church JJJ

We all know the old saying, “Many hands make light work”. We’ve been blessed for four years to be in a facility where we did not have to maintain the place. However, we are so very thankful to GOD for the setup teams who have faithfully given of their time to get here early to set up and stay late to tear down both in the room in which we gather for service and Kids Zone. Those days will soon be over…do I hear a hearty, “Thank You, JESUS!!!”

Moving into our new church is going to take all of us…many hands…doing our part with the gifts and talents we have been given in order to make light work of all that needs to be done by our move in date which right now is September 10 and even beyond that date. There may be jobs that need to be done out of your particular expertise, but all of us can lend a hand even as a gopher.

As I said in the first prayer initiative re unity…we are many parts making a wonderful symphony in unity and harmony with one another under one Conductor…Our LORD and KING…JESUS. Let’s pray throughout this process (and also determine within our own being) that the physical labor we are involved in only makes that bond of unity within this church body stronger, more steadfast, and more sure.

This past Monday, I read Nehemiah 3 about the people who rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem in 52 days. I am always inspired by Nehemiah…and would urge you to read at least the first six chapters for vision and strengthening…so exciting!

Below is encouragement from the HOLY SPIRIT through Paul for the work before us in readying our new building.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NAS)

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the LORD rather than for men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

I Corinthians 15:58 (New Living Translation)

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Let’s pray often that we will not grow weary in doing the physical labor, knowing that we will reap a harvest in people’s lives being saved, delivered, healed, and set free and all to the GLORY of our great GOD and HIS SON, our SAVIOR, KING JESUS.

JESUS IS LORD and KING TODAY…and FOREVER! HALLELUJAH!!

Week 2 – Evangelism

I Timothy 2:1-6 “I urge (NIV), admonish (Amplified), exhort (NKJ) first of all that
            requests,
            prayers,
            intercession,
            and thanksgiving

be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, … This is good and pleases GOD our Savior who desires/wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.. For there is one GOD and one mediator between GOD and men, the man CHRIST JESUS who gave HIMSELF a ransom for all…”

Hebrews 10:24-25 “Let us consider how to stimulate (NAS), spur (NIV) one another on toward love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…”

Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me,”Let us go to the house of the LORD!”

Pastor Dave is requesting that each of us pray and ask GOD to reveal 5-10 persons that are on HIS heart that HE would have us invite to our new location for our first services.

Then make a list of those whom GOD has put on your heart…

  • thank GOD for each person
  • thank GOD for HIS great love for them
  • thank GOD for the life giving salvation HE has provided for them…spirit, soul, and body and every area of their life…through the death, burial and glorious resurrection of HIS SON and our SAVIOR – JESUS CHRIST
  • thank GOD for the ministry of the HOLY SPIRIT in their lives drawing them to HIMSELF
  • thank GOD for a place…New Hope…you can invite them to where they will hear HIS TRUTH preached with passion and where they will be welcomed and loved no matter their situation/circumstance
  • pray that these people hearts will be receptive and oh so glad when you invite them to New Hope
  • thank GOD for the privilege you have of being a co-laborer with HIM in advancing HIS Kingdom in each of these person’s lives

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…for forever! Hallelujah!!

Week 1 – Unity

Pastor Dave requested that we begin praying for the unity that New Hope is currently experiencing to continue during the weeks leading up to our move to our new building and into the next chapter in the life of New Hope Community Church.

First of all, what is unity? According to Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary unity is:
1) the quality or state of not being multiple: Oneness;
2) a condition of harmony: Accord. However, unity does not mean: Sameness.

The richest example of both of these is the GODHEAD…FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT; absolutely one! absolutely in accord! but not the same. They each have their distinct functions in the GODHEAD.

As the BODY of CHRIST that calls itself New Hope Community Church, each of us has our distinct function(s) within this church but we do so and go forth into our next chapter with UNITY…absolutely one! absolutely in accord! But…not with the same function(s). We are many parts making a wonderful symphony in unity and harmony with one another under one Conductor…Our LORD and KING…JESUS, who is the HEAD of HIS BODY, the church.

With that in mind, here are three verses to get your prayer juices flowing as we pray this week for present and continuing unity at New Hope.

Psalm 133:1,3 (Amplified Bible)BEHOLD, HOW good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life for evermore (upon the high and the low).”

Amos 3:3 (NIV)Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

Disunity, on the other hand, is lack of unity: Dissension (We all know who is behind that mess!)

James 3:14-16 “But if you have bitter envying and strife (KJV) contention (Amplified) selfish ambition (NIV) in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, natural (NAS), unspiritual (NIV) and of the devil…demonic…devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”

The following is one verse of a song by Bob Gillman. This could be part of your prayer this week.

“Bind us together, Lord,
Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord…Bind us together..
Bind us together with love.”

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…and forever!! Hallelujah!!
