Week 1 – Unity

Pastor Dave requested that we begin praying for the unity that New Hope is currently experiencing to continue during the weeks leading up to our move to our new building and into the next chapter in the life of New Hope Community Church.

First of all, what is unity? According to Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary unity is:
1) the quality or state of not being multiple: Oneness;
2) a condition of harmony: Accord. However, unity does not mean: Sameness.

The richest example of both of these is the GODHEAD…FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT; absolutely one! absolutely in accord! but not the same. They each have their distinct functions in the GODHEAD.

As the BODY of CHRIST that calls itself New Hope Community Church, each of us has our distinct function(s) within this church but we do so and go forth into our next chapter with UNITY…absolutely one! absolutely in accord! But…not with the same function(s). We are many parts making a wonderful symphony in unity and harmony with one another under one Conductor…Our LORD and KING…JESUS, who is the HEAD of HIS BODY, the church.

With that in mind, here are three verses to get your prayer juices flowing as we pray this week for present and continuing unity at New Hope.

Psalm 133:1,3 (Amplified Bible)BEHOLD, HOW good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life for evermore (upon the high and the low).”

Amos 3:3 (NIV)Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

Disunity, on the other hand, is lack of unity: Dissension (We all know who is behind that mess!)

James 3:14-16 “But if you have bitter envying and strife (KJV) contention (Amplified) selfish ambition (NIV) in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, natural (NAS), unspiritual (NIV) and of the devil…demonic…devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”

The following is one verse of a song by Bob Gillman. This could be part of your prayer this week.

“Bind us together, Lord,
Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord…Bind us together..
Bind us together with love.”

JESUS IS LORD and KING today…and forever!! Hallelujah!!
